Wealth is a Mindset by Pamela S Thibodeaux (c) 2014
Wealth is a mindset.
This I've come to understand and believe with all my heart. Yet, in all the years of my spiritual journey and trying to understand God's point of view on business as well as personal finance, one scripture in particular has caused me to rethink everything I believed and thought I knew.
Deuteronomy 8:18: "But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get (make, produce, create) wealth..."
Wait—the power to create wealth? But I thought one had to go out and work, slave away for years and years, put aside every spare penny, spend thriftily and save continuously to get wealth!
So how do you create wealth?
Well, how did God create the world? With His thoughts and words.
Let's look at this from both a spiritual and a universal standpoint.
The Law of Attraction states what you focus on you'll receive (or create) in your life. Focus on wealth-you'll attract wealth; focus on debt-you'll attract debt; focus on lack-you'll experience lack; focus on abundance-you'll attract abundance.
The Bible states what you sow, you'll reap. Granted, most people refer to sowing and reaping as it pertains to money, however, this is also true in your thoughts and words.
What do your thoughts and words have to do with getting/making/producing/creating wealth?
Everything! Before you can gain control of your finances, learn to save, get out of debt and become financially secure or wealthy—you must realize how important your thoughts and words are.
Now some folks will look at this scripture and think..."Yeah, right. The only folks who create wealth are those who work in creative fields - but they still work."
Others will believe all they have to do is sit around and profess their prosperity and it will manifest out of thin air with no action on their part.
Neither approach is 100% right or wrong, but realistically, a balanced perspective is best.
There is an old adage that says... "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."
There's a lot of truth in that statement and could very well be one way to create wealth but even those who do what they love, have a tendency to talk poverty and lack (IE: the 'starving artist' syndrome).
Here are some ways you can change your mind about money and in changing your thoughts and words, create more wealth and abundance in your life.
#1: Collect, memorize, & meditate on motivational sayings on the subject of wealth: The spiritual substance from which all wealth comes is never depleted, it responds to my faith in it and demands upon it. Charles Fillmore.
#2: Collect, memorize, & meditate on scriptural promises of wealth and prosperity: Let the poor say I am rich; God has given me the power to create wealth; as a man thinks in his heart, he is. (I have 4 pages of these!)
#3: Read books by prosperity teachers, financial coaches, motivational speakers, & spiritual gurus and implement their teachings in your life. (Catherine Ponder, Laurel Langmeyer, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Bob Proctor)
#4: Visualize living the prosperous life you desire to live! Now, I'm not saying go out and get in debt making this happen, but create a vision board or photo collage of the things you would own and do if you had all the money you ever dreamed of then take a few moments each day and reflect on this lifestyle. Allow yourself to feel good about it, trusting it will happen. Make sure and put photos of your favorite charity or church because receiving is directly related to giving.
#5: Most importantly--Write and SPEAK positive affirmations concerning money, wealth & prosperity over your life! I am wealthy; I am prosperous; I am creative; I am blessed; I am abundant; I am joint heirs to the Kingdom and prosperity is my birthright.
These are just a few ideas to get you started on developing a wealthy mindset. Remember, experts say it takes thirty to forty-five days to replace a bad habit with a good one - the same goes for changing a lifetime of negative thoughts and 'poor mouthing' so make a commitment to yourself and don't give up—your financial future depends upon it!
