When Calls the Heart

Good Morning and Welcome Back to Rainbows, Potholes and Nuggets of Gold blog.

It is SO good to connect with you again!

A lot has happened since my last post. I took a trip to the Finger Lakes region in New York. You can read all about it on my travel blog, Bathroom Blues.

Football, and my grandson's final, season starts today. I'm looking forward to that but for now, let me tell you about my latest binge-watching adventure.

Based on Jeanette Oaks books, I'd watched an occasional episode of Hallmark's When Calls the Heart here and there and always thought it was interesting, so when I received the entire first 12 seasons on DVD for Christmas, I was happy, figuring I'd relax over an hour or two each night.

NOT!

I LOVED this so much and was hooked from the very first show, sometimes watching 4 or 5 in a row.

I love the way the writers bring in the invention of indoor plumbing, the telephone and radio and so much more. But what I love most is the simple faith of the characters and willingness of the townsfolk to forgive and move on. The character growth of the protagonist, Henry Gowen, a man I disliked from the onset reminded me that anyone can change and it's never too late for them to do so.

Many might say this show is "sappy" but there are thousands of folks who love it as much as I do. Dedicated "Hearties" can be found all over, but you can connect with them here and here.

So, if you're looking for some clean, wholesome entertainment with lots of action and passion, check out this series. I'm not saying you have to binge When Calls the Heart, but if you can watch it from the beginning. You won't regret it.
